Hi,
Greetings from the American Embassy in New Delhi.
In support of Womenâs History Month and International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11), Public Affairs New Delhi has invited acclaimed American documentary film maker Kelly Cox to New Delhi from Feb 12-14. Please find below a copy of Kellyâs bio for your reference.
We are delighted to invite you for an informal Round table on, âFemale Empowerment in Male Dominated
Industries,â from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
on Tuesday, February 13 at the American Center, 24 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Kelly
will lead this discussion.
We hope this will be a great opportunity for everyone to share their views on issues such as:
· What is the role of media and films in changing mindsets?
· Why do so many women drop out of the workforce?
· Why do so few women go in for STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Management) education and STEM job opportunities?
· What are individual corporates doing to hire and elevate women in STEM?
Kelly is coming to India as part of the American Film Showcase (AFS) program which is a collaborative project of the U.S. State Department and the University of South Californiaâs School of Cinematic Arts (USC-SCA). AFS films offer a broad look at contemporary American life and the values of a free and democratic society, and demonstrate how film can serve as a catalyst for dialogue and engagement. The selected films explore a wide variety of themes, including developing civil society, empowering women, promoting entrepreneurship, advancing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, and inspiring youth.
During her India visit, Kelly will lead a series of film screenings and discussions around her American Film Showcase documentaryBig Dream, where she will engage audiences on, âUsing film for Social Awareness: Empowering Women through STEM,â and âFemale empowerment in male dominated Industries.â She will meet with documentary film makers, industry representatives, university and high school educators and students, and the media. âBig Dream,â follows seven ambitious young women around the world who will stop at nothing to achieve their Big Dream. This film has been produced in partnership with Microsoft, UN Women, White House Office of Science & Technology, UNICEF, and National Science Foundation.
We look forward to hearing from you and meeting you on February 13.
Please do confirm your participation to my colleague Alla Vaz @***@state.gov or phone â 011-2347-2292.
