Conversations on Documentary Filmmaking
Every month, we will conduct a mentoring workshop for young and new filmmakers on different aspects of the making of a documentary film: the language and ethics of documentary narrative. This discussion will take place in an informal, round table setting, moderated by 2 mentors, to enable the filmmakers to question, and thereby push their ideas/concepts further.
We invite filmmakers to submit their concepts / proposals in the following formatÂ
1. A one liner of the film.Â
2. A synopsis of the project
3. A treatment/director's/motivation note.Â
4. A video clip / trailer / rushes if available, not more than 20 minutes.Â
5. A brief bio of director with contact details.
6. Any other material, if available, which will help us understand the project better.
7. DO NOT CUT n PASTE from WIKIPEDIA / NET
8. Please see that all files should be compatible for both Windows n Mac
The project may be at any stage:concept / pre production or even post.
The selected projects will be circulated amongst selected participants and mentors before the workshop.

This session is free of charge.
Only selected proposals will be notified.

Mentors:
After graduating from the Film and Television Institute, Pune, India, in 1992, with a specialisation in Film Editing, Pankaj was assistant editor on Sekhar Kapur's âBandit Queenâ. After editing numerous documentaries and TV serials, he made his first film KUMAR TALKIES. Subsequently, Pankaj has become a one man crew producing, directing, shooting and editing his own documentaries. (Pather Chujaeri, The Vote, Gharat, 3 Men and a Bulb, Punches n Ponytails, Seeds of Dissent, In Godâs Land). His films have been screened at film festivals all over the world -- Berlin, Rotterdam, IDFA, Busan, Yamagata, AFI Los Angeles, Fribourg, Visions Du Reel, Sydney, St. Petersburg and Munich. He has won grants from Hubert Bals, IFA, Jan Vrijman, AND (Korea), Goteborg, Banff, Majlis, Sarai and Pad.ma. Pankaj was awarded an Asia Society fellowship at Harvard Asia Centre (2003). He was a TA at the first Asian Film Academy (Busan). He is an Alumni of Berlin Talents (2016). Pankaj also curates and teaches. Pankaj was a regular curator at FD Zone Mumbai. In addition to weekly documentary screenings, in 2013 he curated a festival of films on 'Kashmir', 'Indian Experimental films' and 'Personal Cinema'. Pankaj has just finished his maiden screenplay.Â
Batul Mukhtiar: has worked as a line producer and associate director for several international documentaries. She has directed some documentary shorts, and a docu-feature, 150 Seconds Ago. She has made 2 childrenâs fiction features, Lilkee and Kaphal.
